Postage is not $1... it will be 85 cents.

Permanent stamps will cost $1, but that's only to lock out speculators who buy huge quantities before rate increases. (Too late for them... I've got 1,000 sitting on my desk right now)

On the subject of mail box kiosk locations, those installed over the last 3 decades or so, for the most part will have been a part of a development permit approved by the city or municipality when the developer got plans approved. Access, safety and location issues would have all been considered. Residents would have had input into that approval process, I would think. Retroactive kiosk installations may or may not have a city/municipal approval requirement. Certainly, BC Hydro apparently can put their power transformer boxes anywhere they deem to. I have seen some instances where an installation a few feet from where it was installed would have been far less intrusive. I will check with my local government now and will post their response.

my small town has always been mail box. I used to have delivery service when I lived in the city for a few years and I feel more comfortable with a mail box, there is anonymity.....especially if you purchase a lot of coins via mail.

I hope they don't place the boxes to far away from my house. I don't want them
in front of it either. I will save a little money not having to pay extra to
have my coin news in a envelope now.

a Crown Corporation which has a MONOPOLY in it's field and can't even break even.
AND they have $ millions of unfunded liabilities (pensions) that they can't afford to pay out.
Exactly why governments should not be involved in business ventures.
I say privatize.

Well, this is obviously a move/adjustment to the new digital world. Newspaper delivery is already being phased out...

I for one will be making a move to receive my bills via e-mail and pay bills electronically. I'll be sending more correspondence including greeting cards online.

Lately mail consists of an overwhelming amount of junk. Now why don't they get rid of junk mail? I don't want to have to pick up my mail just to get a bunch of useless coupons, flyers, CC promos, etc. Why doesn't CP transfer the junk mail to flyer delivery only and mail important letters once a week door-to-door?

BTW, does anyone know how to take one's name of the "junk mail" list?

Where I live there's a form you sign at the post office requesting no junk mail. Also for 9 yrs I live where the entire town of 10,000 uses these mailboxes. There is no mess in the streets and I don't recall any complaints either about flyer mess.

I have a distinct feeling that the changes they are suggesting will not be as drastic as they announced. Canada post employee for over 21 years and I say ..................privatize it! Get innovative and think like a business! The real problem with Canada post is ( and this is a bit simplistic) they have no idea whether they are a service or a business.

As an aside, a Canada Post van just pulled up outside my house and delivered a parcel to me in the heart of our first major snow storm... and it's Sunday.

Costco still sells the Permanent stamps for $63 including tax for a roll of 100 stickers, all Canada Post locations no longer sell the 'P' stamps. So for those of you looking to make a guaranteed 50% or higher return, go to Costco and buy those stamps! Who knows, you may actually double your investment return when you sell the stamps 10 years from now!
