The master list has been updated! By the way, it looks like the last SL thread was only 39 days. This one will be better.

Quote: By the way, it looks like the last SL thread was only 39 days. The last Seated Liberty coins thread was originally designed for the Seated Liberty half dollar and then expanded to include all Seated types. I started the last one in 1839 and, of course we all know, there were Half Dimes and Dimes starting in 1837 and quarters in 1838. And years 1878-1890 were pretty scarce for the Half Dollar so I put them all on one day. Now, with all types of Seated Liberty coins, I felt expanding the days made more sense. (Of course, they'll still be some "rare" coin days...) I'm REALLY looking forward to this thread! I know our membership has some astounding beauties for us all to drool over!!

Before the show starts, permit me to offer what I have been taught about the 1837 Large and Small date varieties. Back in Sept. of 2012 our joint meeting of the BCCS and the LSCC covered this topic as it pertained to the Half Dime. The same lesson may be applied to the dime as well. It is NOT the size of the date which matters; only the style of the numeral "1", which may be studied in these two photos. The tops of the ones are the key. In the small date, that top stroke is horizontal, whereas in the large date it has a 'hook.' In my specimens of the Half Dime and the dime both were mis-labelled "large date" when in reality they were the small date variety. A tad rarer, but no difference in price. Perhaps the terms "hook" and "no hook" would be better, but numismatics is littered with examples of misleading labels. Once they have been established we must use them. (sigh ...) If anyone wishes to disagree with me, please do. Maybe the expert is wrong. But I doubt it. Now, let the show begin!
