Quote:http://www.ebay.com/itm/1812-50C-Ca...em3ce9cae1e3This is actually a great coin. Heading just made me chuckle. Is it a great coin ? The denticles are different shapes and sizes - is that normal ? On any other country's (die-struck)coins, I would deduce that it is a fake.

I didn't look at it that closely. I don't know much about the bust halves to be honest. I just thought the title was funny.

Well...I'm hardly an authority on these coins, but nothing screams fake to me. They were often crudely struck around the rim. I seldom consider grading the coins on this thread, but I suppose this one is more like VF30 than AU....

"Not Very Fine"--that's for sure! Is there really any value over melt for that? It's not a rare one.

I think the best thing to do with such coins is to make them into jewellery.

I don't know I would still put it in my 7070 if it was like ten dollars. I tend to like coins with obsessive character for it. It's amazing when I get an above ag coin in there. It's become a bit of a challenge for me.

Error? That poor coin got kicked--repeatedly--in the denticles.

A pity he didn't explain how he thought it was a mint error - mint rage perhaps.
I'm glad no one fell for such nonsense.

Thanks for sharing that 'Paul_Bulgerin', gave me a good laugh.
Guess someone put it on a rail-track and waited for a mint-state train to run over it.

I find it funny that you all mis-read the listing.. "Net Very Fine" is what it says.
