I only have 2 slabbed coin and they are silver which I got for not to much over non slabbed coins. I have a few rare coins on my list to get which I'll probably get slabbed.

A total of 67 that are Cent Sample slabs, another 21 in Two Cent Pieces. The other 1200+ coins are raw.

I've cracked open almost every one I've bought to fill my albums. I might have about 30 still in plastic.

Zero. Always figured if I owned a 09sVDB it would be in one.

I am VERY surprised that of the folks who have posted so far, that how few, in total, of coins that are slabbed. I would have thought that at least with the Americans amongst us, that there would be a much greater reporting of coins in slabs. Am I allowed to make the assumption that a coin has to be of significant value to justify the expense of slabbing and return shipping fees?
None of my coins are slabbed. That due to the nature of my collection. It is essentially a statement of World coins, from ancient times. Having a collection such as this that may be partially slabbed, would make no sense. Storage and display would become very awkward.

Quote: Am I allowed to make the assumption that a coin has to be of significant value to justify the expense of slabbing and return shipping fees? Depends on whose getting it slabbed as the rates are different for large volume submitters, but its fair to say that expense automatically eliminates a percentage of coins from likely ever being slabbed. The TPGS especially PCGS and NGC are doing large volumes of coins though, I would say its safe to say more coins of value are ending up in slabs than before. The percentage is definitely larger than whats being represented in this thread

Around 40 although I can't remember the exact count off the top of my head. 50% of them are graded by NGC, 45% are PCGS, and the remainder are ANACS. I'm kind of surprised at the responses so far, most are quite anti-slab. I have plenty of raw coins but like slabbed coins as well.

What constitutes "slabbed"? My ICCS coins are graded but not encased in hard plastic, but something soft and more pliable. Does slabbed mean third party graded or does it mean a hard case?

Nice question. I have just one It is a 2000-D $1 coin, courtesy of Bob&Susan, they mailed it all The way from the States to me. We do not have 3rd party grading companies in Turkey. No one here believes in someone else's opinion about condition ;)

I have 251 slabbed coins now, which is the majority of my collection. Most were slabbed when I bought them.
Focusing on slabbed coins has made it much easier to avoid damaged, harshly cleaned, or counterfeit coins.

I's say "slabbed" would mean "graded by a reputable TPG", irrespective of how slab-like their packaging is. So yes, I'd count ICCS.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

I have 2 09-S VDBs I had PCGS slab in MS 64 and 65 RB, and I also bought an error quarter slabbed by ANACS for dirt cheap, and about 4 others, all PCGS that I got for peanuts. I choose to buy more slabbed because you can check their authenticity on the "Cert Verify" and you usually get more out of them. I also have quite a bit of raw coins that I just pull out of circulation. My opinion about slabs is that I buy the coins in slabs that I can`t get anywhere else.
