I have a few slabbed coins, PCGS, NGC, ANACS. I have cracked out many to fill openings in my albums and am pondering one recent acquisition as to weather to crack or not. I do collect one set in slabs and that is cameo proof Franklin halves.

Three - all are high quality coins given to me as gifts by my dad. I have never had one of my coins slabbed. My dad gets his (much nicer) coins slabbed all the time. We are like night and day on this issue.

Quote: NONE. I collect coins, not plastic. Same here. If I ever buy a slabbed coin (which is almost unavoidable when I get to buying some of the higher key dates), it will get cracked.

I have around 60 slabs and the number is rising. Many of the coins of the qualities I am looking for are usually slabbed.
Anything that's higher than 63, I need to have in a container of some kind. I know I'll just damage them by accident if I don't. And I don't feel like I have to baby a slab.
I wouldn't say I prefer slabs, but it's just kind of what people do and where the coins are. Whenever I feel tempted to break open a slab I think about resale value and the cost of reslabbing (if I were to change my mind for some reason), and that's usually enough to let me keep it as is.

Oops, forgot to include my Grade Set of Two Cent Pieces. Another 24 slabs, grades from AG3 to MS66 BN. Someday these will end up as an Exhibit in my state's club annual conference.

So - I have one ICG slab and two NGC. How do I open them without doing damage to the coins? I don't care about the damage to the cases - just don't want to mess up and damage the coins! I want to put the coins in my album.

I don't have any slabbed coins. Although they are catching on a bit in this country, most UK dealers still sell nearly all their coins raw.

Maybe 150 in slabs. One US coin is in 100 of those slabs. Same denomination, same year, same mint. Different dies, stages and conditions. Other 50 are minor investments. However most of my collection is raw, in flips, 2x2s or snap-tites.

I like plastic and raw. Plastic for the expensive stuff and raw for the non expensive stuff
