The obverse on your token has a dot rather than a dash under the "L" in GENL.

The corner of the truncated bust near the "1773" is relatively pointed, not rounded, and is close to the first "7".

Those features match what I have for WHH 1840-50, the difference being that yours looks, on both obverse and reverse, to be on a slightly larger diameter token, so that all the features are not as close to the rim.

So far, when identifying the types and I see differences, I attribute the Dewitt/Sullivan number to the commonest image, and add "V" to those with slight differences, and "ERA" to those that are more noticeable, and even then, I have some in an "unidentified" folder.

Unless more data is found, in my files your token will probably become "WHH 1840-50v large", assuming I can sort my existing 50+ images of WHH 1840-50 into two types, with the small size being the common one.

I'll go with your WHH 1840-50v. Sullivan does state the dot under the L in GENL, but the way it's stated I didn't notice that. I had to get out my loupe to see the L as it's very faint ( Grease Filled Die maybe?), and mine does indeed have the dot rather than a dash. However it measures 24 mm, so it's the expected diameter. I wasn't sure if the point on the bust met this condition: "unfinished truncation line points to O in BORN", but I guess you could say it does. I'm still at a loss why I only have 2 smoke blobs, unless the third blob was eliminated by a Grease Filled Die - no sign of it with magnification. I'll revise my label to your WHH 1840-50v. Thanks for the help!

That disappearing smoke is probably a later die state - on some, it is quite clear, but on others it is faint and finally gone. That corresponds with the "L" in GENL, sharp only on the tokens with three puffs of smoke.

I'm surprised and pleased that Sullivan mentions some of the same distinguishing features that I've noticed, because my descriptions come mostly from what I've observed on the tokens or in scans, not any reference books, so that's a confidence booster. But the size of the date makes it easy to identify WHH 1840-52.

Most of my Wm H Harrison tokens came from Heritage auctions, seems like I was buying during a brief window of opportunity when there were not many bidders.

I'll agree with that later die state and the disappearing smoke. Everything else matches the 1840-50 description. Bidders have really increased for these old tokens!
