I'm thinking it's possible that they left this die in service a little too long. What do you all think?

That year was the year of more reverse clashes/over polishing and missing devices. Probably some one over polish happy that year. It also happened other years.

The doubled clashes can happen in the same strike if the die bounces during the strike, or previous clash marks are added to a new clash. Mostly interesting, but the stronger the clash, the more desirable they are.
