Those last three stories are really good.

Quote: These three halves were among the first coins to go into my 7070, sure I have 'prettier' examples, but they hold that sentimental value that a pretty face can't replace. Love!

I just back and read all of these stories(some I re-read). These are some great stories, guys! I'm impressed by the different aspects of coin collecting folks have focused on. I think the CCF is hiding some very promising future authors! (Note to all: My story didn't stick to the premise of "Be the Coin". Sorry! I should have read the thread instructions better before my writing mania took me over...)

Thanks for the wonderful stories nalaberong , Dasalo , and Moe145 They are all great, and yes Moe the basic idea is to 'Be The Coin'. But I loved the departure "A Day in the Life of Abner Stackpole ... or The Death of a Die, The Birth of a Coin" Not sure how many cuckoo alarm clocks there were back then thou , I loved it all. So to clarify the 'Rules' of this thread, 'Be The Coin' is the idea but the only real rule is 'Be Creative' and have fun... ok two rules

Thanks all, creative writing isn't something I'm all that good at, but I felt I had to try this time.

I seems to me that one of you great story tellers here needs to do a story about one of the Saddle Ridge Hoard coins. I am horrible at telling stories, and have absolutely no imagination whatsoever, no way I could do a coin like that justice.

What's this about "future authors?" We ARE authors! But if you are talking about being published: been there, done that. Case in point: I sent Eileen, editor of the BCCS Journal, the story about the Barber halves traveling to Honolulu. Just for fun. She wrote back that she loves the story and will use it in a future issue of our Journal! I did not expect that kind of reaction. Eileen has given her support to the CCF and we have been mentioned in several issues. (I love my editor!)

Congratz! matthewvincent! ! We are all authors! I'd like to suggest a name for the story if you don't already have one... "Beware the Barber that SHIVERS!" Also a quick note about permission, If this ever does get published as a book I'd certainly like a chunk of change not only from my stories but for coming up with the idea in the first place. If anyone uses the story they put here for other publications it is THEIR story and I'll never ask for a chunk, (I'm betting in this case it's not a paid type thing so there is no 'chunk' this time and most likely never will be) but for the publicity of the CCF and this thread in particular please make sure that when it is published there is a disclaimer stating... "This story is just one of many wonderful stories that can be found on the CCF forum under the thread of 'A Coin's Life'" And please remember you are not the author you are just the transcriber, the COIN is the author . We just need to listen to them . I hope this "Legaleze" does not make anyone scared of posting a story here. It is your story to do with as you wish. I just want people to know where it came from. My greatest hope is that someone will post a story here and say they have been lurking for years and decided to sign up just to post their story. Or even better, someone reads a story published somewhere else and finds the CCF because of it

Heyyy! Here's a deal for you - just buy me, 2 francs, and I'll only charge you 1 franc. Think about it! 200% profit for you. We're talking dollars for dimes here. Yes? No? You're reaching for your pocket, right? Sorry, cash only, I don't trust banks or credit cards. Too much hassle, right? You're considering it, right? No, really, stick around, this isn't even the best offer I have! Ooh, you're tough. 75 centimes? 50 centimes? Okay, okay, 40 centimes for 2 francs - and that's it! No more! Fine, 30... okay, 25. Where are you going?! I am a French 2-franc coin, struck at the Paris Mint in 1887. What, you don't believe it? Look at these fine features. Look at these curves. Convincing, right? No? You got me. I am a piece of cast metal, made to fool hardworking French citizens just before the turn of the century. Don't lick me, because I'm probably made out of lead. The last time I saw my creators was when one of them passed me off to some poor sucker as a real coin. He likewise passed me off to yet another chump without realizing his mistake, but somewhere along the line one of the saps caught on, and put me aside as an example of a fake. I laid there for a long time, bored out of my mind - I was born to rip people off, not to be found out and apprehended! Eventually I ended up in a little bucket of other foreign coins for sale, mocked and shunned by the others for what I really was. It's not like I can help it!! Finally, someone picked me out. He thought he was getting the deal of the year by finding a real old silver coin for $2 - sucker!

... hehe a real story from a FAKE coin , thanks nalaberong phankins11... Quote: I seems to me that one of you great story tellers here needs to do a story about one of the Saddle Ridge Hoard coins. I am horrible at telling stories, and have absolutely no imagination whatsoever, no way I could do a coin like that justice. It's your idea, just listen to the coins... I never said you had to own the coin yourself, so any coin is fair game, even coins that never existed (YES it's possible ) I'm still waiting for a multi-part story... ... to be continued... Please phankins11, do your best. There are some stories here that are not all that creative and I'll never say which because I love them all. (OK my 1943 Australia 3 pence is probably the most un-creative). Heck there is more than one coin in the Saddle Ridge Hoard so let's all work on a Saddle Ridge Story My all time favorite has got to be just carl's, just Amazing story , and even thou it strayed from the 'Be the Coin' idea I still love "A Day in the Life of Abner Stackpole ... or The Death of a Die, The Birth of a Coin" from Moe145 Rule ONE, Have FUN! everything else will follow.

FYI everyone, I sent this story to Eileen, my editor at the Barber Coin Collectors' Journal. Just to give her a laugh. (Trip to Honolulu.) Well, She LOVED IT! And the photo made the front cover. Article was published. How gratifying to make a tiny contribution to the world of coins. I cannot be happier.
