Hi everyone, just today I picked up this 7th-century coin baring the image of Khosrau II of the Sassanid empire. But I know that this style was utilized by the Islamic regime that overthrew this empire. Often this latter type of coin featured script in nasta'liq script on the obverse inside or outside the concentric circle framing the imake of the king. Is that in fact what the text is to the left-side of king's portrait portrait? Thanks!

Based on the crown type I would suspect that this is not Khusro II but rather an earlier ruler, without looking at Gobl right at the moment. I would suspect, Peroz I or Hormizd IV. Both are common (and interesting) rulers ruling in the late 5th century and early 6th century. The Khusro II and Arab off shoots are huge coins, 30 mm + in diameter and the thing is the king on the late issues has a "winged" crown. Its a nice piece, anyway you shake it. I would guess that this coin was not minted under the duress of Arab invaders but rather a far more in fearsome and elusive people, the Huns/ Hephthalites. Again an interesting piece I certainly would welcome into my collection. The crown almost always gives away the ruler on these coins. These coins are dated and identify the king and mint. Unfortunately I cannot read Pahlavi.

Yes, that text is "Middle Persian" also known as Pahlavi, rather than Arabic.

The bust is most like Hormazd IV.
Also the two "nodules" on his Torc are similar.

Below is an example from the online resource for Sasanian coins, grifterrec.com

On your coin, the reverse year date looks most like year 8 and the mintname looks most like "nal" (Narmashir, Kirman province)
