1968 D Quarter Question - Coin Community Forum

killians76 Pillar of the Community United States 986 Posts	Posted 02/12/2014 6:42 pm I received a quarter today in the store and it caught my attention when I noticed the side of it. Lined up with the rest of my changed I say that the side was really bright like a new penny would be. The ridges are slightly worn. Thinking it might be a newer quarter I turn it sideways to check the date. I notice it is really worn obverse and reverse sides. my question is it possible to be in a different metal ? Is that year one to look for for something like this. Is this something to maybe weigh ? The sides where the copper shows really does look real bright like a new penny ? Thoughts? Classic Coins Pillar of the Community United States 940 Posts	Posted 02/12/2014 7:29 pm I would guess that your quarter has been washed. Washing would brighten the copper on the reeded edge. You should be able to distinguish between newly-minted copper color and washed copper color. Washed copper would be bright in color but not lustrous/shiny. Which does it look like to you?
