It's probably best to leave it, as any cleaning may remove the natural toning of the coin. If it were a bit of label that needed removing i'd say yes, but with this i'd leave it. Glad you got the coin mate :).

P.s. This inspired me to get some old British copper coinage in my collection, I have an 1861 and 1864 Victoria one pennys on there way. Can't wait for them to arrive.

I don't no anything about british coins only that they use or I should say we use there imperial system. I use to get a florin to buy my lunch on Fridays, That's why I like florins and the fact there sterling silver, The pennies was just that the colour I thought would look better on a silver bullion bar than a florin the brown will show out.

Guys I shouldn't clean them I get that but maybe can I spray them with some clear lacquer just to really bring them to life you no a but of sparkle clean look. would that be ok or would that not be good as well. Thank you.

Hi Sweetap,

Any thing that changes the natural state of the coin is going to be considered detrimental if you, (or anyone else), ever goes to sell it. (The same reason why cleaning is considered such an issue).

I would normally say "what you do with your coins is up to you, so long as you are forthcoming about it when it comes to selling", if we were talking about low value coins where tidying up was going to make little difference to it's collectible value.

However, any dealer and most collectors would strongly suggest leaving any coin of value as you find it, because altering it is likely to significantly impact on its collectible value. (and not in a good way ....).

Hope this helps.

NB: Glad you found the coins you were looking for.

Regards,

Tim Bowden

I agree with what Tim said^, the call is up to you-but i'd keep them how they are.

I don't mind these bad habits :D, they feel good to me. And regarding what you said about silver content in coins, I'm a big lover of coins like that. Unfortunately for me coins when I was growing up are still near enough the same now, and don't seem to have the beautiful detail and design of coins of old. But in many moons from now when we probably use just virtual credit or something like that, I suppose any coins would be nice :).

All the best with the collection mate, and it's been a pleasure learning about another type of coinage. Have a good one, Awallin.

OH guys that's so nice , You have convinced me to just leave them be. I wont do anything to them.

Thank you Tim and awallin.

awallin you have a good point about the future and credits and no coins , something I never really give much thought to but yes I guess when coins and currency it self is obsolete that even a copper nickel zinc coin will be worth owning.

Thanks guys I will let you know when they have arrived. This week I'm hoping.

Don't stop posting! I'm new to coin collecting, and love trying to find stuff out whilst learning myself. This forum thrives on helping one another, be sharing expertise, or even general chat.

I agree with you, regarding the last one the reverse looks cleaned on parts. However it may of lay obverse up for many years causing it to be coloured differently. Never the less nice purchases, and I'm glad you're enjoying collecting. I love imaging what hands have a held a coin, and what a coin has been through. I bet many a good novel good be wrote by coins if they could talk.

That one is in great condition, it really is a nice looking coin. It looks like it circulated in safe hands, I like that alot. A beautiful example, any surviving one is-but I like that one alot.
