When someone who doesn't collect asks you to check out some coins they have had in the family but then doesn't beleive a word you say. For example, they are positive they read somewhere that Buffalo nickels are silver or that every coin they own is really old so its really valuable.

When I sit down at a dealer's table, open a binder and see nothing but harshly cleaned coins.
Far better to have honest toning or even corrosion than a scratched, bright coin.

All the BIN "auctions" on ebay. There was a 1971-D FEV Eisenhower dollar PCGS MS65 on ebay that I watched for a while. The PCGS price guide has it at $210. This seller had his for BIN $340. A little later a different seller lists a PCGS MS65 also, but his listing was a true auction. I won it for $152. I love real auctions with no reserve.

1. Constant nagging about is it a Penny or a Cent.

2. Having to lock up every coin due to massive thefts.

3. UNSEARCHED coins for sale.

4. On the internet, if someone wants to know about a coin
and the first and sometimes only reply is Not Worth
Much instead of what it is.

And actually lots more but it's getting late.

My TOP 10... in no particular order.

1. Vastly over graded coins on ebay or coins I would like to buy but have horrible photos.

2. Common coins being called "Rare."

3. Collectors that refuse to buy the book first and learn about what their collecting.

4. When my Red and Red/Brown copper coins turn to all Brown after I purchase and store them properly.

5. Buying the same variety I already have, in a lower grade, because I forgot I already had one.

6. Rude coin dealers at shows

7. Coin shows with entrance fees

8. TPG fees - they are way too overpriced for variety attributions IMO.

9. Counterfeits - especially the new really good Chinese ones!

10. Not finding certain varieties after years of searching for them, or finding one but it's WAY overpriced.

and one last one - getting sniped by a few cents on a coin I really wanted on ebay. or finding that coin with only a few seconds left (not enough time to bid).

It's a short list:

1) People who clean what would otherwise be UNC or even Gem coins
2) Anyone who uses Krause as their sole source for coin prices. It's like using Wikipedia as your sole source to write an essay.
3) People who throw coins in 2x2 onto glass tables - it's a thin piece of plastic not a crumple zone!

1. eBayers who a) Blurry images on a 'rare' coin grrr
b) Who overprice
C) All the variations of the word fake used or even for bullion, milled, plated, coated, clad, coloured etc, yet the description is more misleading than Lola in a nightclub.
d) Agree with westcoin on the last second sniping and being out bid by pennies/cents-:D and feeling like a fool for not bidding that bit more, but Mr T will pity me.

2. Not knowing enough as a new collector.

3. Never having enough coins to be a self certified 21st century pirate.

I completely agree with your number 1 just carl! I find it far more annoying the people who correct penny and cent (even though they may be technically correct) than the person who misused it in the first place. Sorry OP
