I mean no offence by this, so please don't take any... Even though I know by just saying that it doesn't really mean anything, lol actually it'd be like saying I don't want to hurt you and stomping on someone's foot... But seriously, no offence, to each his own.... But I'm with smoker and numis... No way no how... I agree with what both said and honestly, to me, it'd be like purposely ruining a piece of history. Not to mention the fact that the majority of pocket pieces, especially heavy ones, get lost at one point or another (not ALL.. But I'd feel confident saying most).. So how much is "your history" going to matter to the next guy who finds it? Lol. Not to mention that this coins history started at the mint.. It survived amongst many in good shape, probably in a mint bag, only to be "circulated" and destroyed carrried around in a pocket, not even being used for commerce after 130 years? Ya I don't get it... I think adding your history to an already circulated coin could be cooler. But again.... To each his own and your obviously free to do as you please ... (Lol, I just hope you live near me and it falls out of your pocket before taking too much abuse and I stumble across it , just playing)

Doesn't make any sense to me either. Why not just use a new American Eagle?

I've been using a Peace dollar lately. It's in VF condition. I like keeping my MS coins in cardboard 2x2s or in PCGS slabs. If I use a MS coin as my pocket piece, it is really solving nothing. Not that anything was set out to be solved, but I feel like I'm losing value. Maybe value doesn't mean much to you, just the history, and that's fine.

Love your pocket Morgan.
I carry a LOW BALL IKE for mine.
thanks Kindly spoken for you .... our mission here at CCF is: We are only custodians in this time frame, for a particular coin. The coin has it's own life beyond ours ... and lives on, for future numismatic holders. I am so happy I found this site to grow in my coin interest. I did commit a big no-no by posting a picture with my dirty ugly greasy thumbs on a coin. It was a NO-NO for sure. Nuff said. Any way, as far as I am concerned, all is well. I wish you well. Hope you stick around to gain the wisdom and joy of collecting. There is more wisdom here than, I don't know what.

I just got me a new(used) money clip with a 58 Canadian BC totem pole silver dollar which someone soldered on the clip and has already been carried. So I wont be out and have a nice pocket piece to boot. I knew a friend that always carried a $20 Gold Liberty double eagle. So each person has their own thing and they have the right to do what they wish.

As much as coins mean to us all they are not sacred, just nice. In the scheme of things people take priority; family and friends. So do your feelings. I might suggest that you document the dings and bruises. "The rim ding a 9 o'clock occurred on 99/99/99 when it dropped on the floor." I support you in this endeavor.

IMHO ... Davis 1974...... with all has faults ...
and newbie-ism on coins... is discouraged here on CCF.
I tried to see his first post ... maybe he didn't make one.
Did he get a WELCOME from anyone?
I am going to give him a a late WELCOME from Domain555.
Hope he comes back

You know what I think is cool is you can pass this coin down from generation to generation. It will mean so much to keep it in your family for the next, uh, 300 years :-)
Yes, document the coin from now through progression.

Is it a VAM-10 O/O Mintmark? Not that big of a loss if it is/was.

Carry what you want! I like the Morgan idea, heck I had a friend that used to carry a $10.00 Gold Indian - he could afford to carry it, and he liked showing it off, how many people have no idea that gold coins once actually circulated in commerce in the United States? It was pretty cool to see peoples reactions when he pulled it out of his pocket.

Carry it in a screw capsule or more safely, a slab. Then you have the best of both worlds. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MY pocket piece is a standard copper nickel common date 10 cent piece in good VF condition. Trouble is though, I keep spending it and have to keep replacing it all of the time! At least, the replacement cost is not all that much.
