Thanks for everyone that is supportive of me in this endeavor. I will keep documents on any "damage" that may occur to the coin over time. I chose NOT to carry it in a case because I like the feel of silver in my hands. Yes it may be a bad choice to use a BU coin, but I feel EVERYTHING, no matter silver or human should have its freedom to move about this earth. This coin will have history, not couped up in a bag or someones safe.

I wanted a heavy silver dollar as a pocket piece. Instead of a BU Morgan, with so much history it had before it came to me, I decided to carry a BU bullion ASE, which is also a silver dollar. And I could be sure I am the first one to ever handle that one---bought directly from my LCS, with it being in no collections before my purchase. And now I am happy that I chose the ASE---silver wore down fast and it became an XF piece in a matter of months. If I carried a BU Morgan that lasted as BU for 130 years, and wore it down to an XF in a couple of months---I would feel a little bad for the coin, considering its survival as a BU piece for decades upon decades. Anyways, that Morgan's yours, your pocket piece, and it will be a very exciting heirloom to receive, generations upon generations :)

Hello David, you're not crazy using this coin as your pocket piece. Some members would never use this type of coin for one, others might. In the end it's your call, and a call you've already made.
As mentioned by others a part of collecting is being a custodian for some of us, to protect historic coinage for the future. Like how a museum operates, to store history. The idea of a coin being couped up is to better protect it, it is more a labor of love. And every now and then we take them out and cherish them.
I completely get what you're doing, my pocket piece consists of a few things that some may not personally carry. I even take pictures of one part of it, in symbolic places on my travels. I do however keep them protected, but to each there own. Hope it continues to be the cause of many a discussion in the future, and enjoy your future endeavor :).

Matteproof, GOOD POST! The difference between an ASE and Morgan is the purity of silver: .900 and .999, which explains why the ASE wore so quickly. A Morgan, because of the 10% copper, would hold up much longer.

Matthewvincent: Yes, I do realize the difference in purity between the two silver dollars, however carrying it for couple of months, even a week, will make it qualify as a circulated piece. Either the coin is AU-58 or XF, the coin will be still be a 'circulated' Morgan which has stood up 130 years to be worn down ;)

At least on the days I carry anything at all. That worn smooth HEAVY ol' Ike feels so good in my pocket. Love showing it to the young people. CCF is the right place to learn about coins. Stick around.

First group is trying to wear the coin out. Second group wants to have a neat coin on their person that they can take out and show people. It sounds like you are in group 2 while myself and the OP are in group 1. If I were you I would get an airtite holder for the coin after you soak it in acetone to remove the tape glue residue.
