100 years since the Battle of Leipzig, where Napoleon's forces were defeated for good. This monument was built for the centennial at huge expense - it's incredibly huge and maybe a bit over-done.

Maybe the monument and the coin wanted to make up for the fact that, in the Napoleonic Wars, Saxony (where Leipzig is) was an ally of France. ;)

Ok, german coins, here we go.
I have a few of them, with my particular area of interest being coinage of the 19th century - all denominations from heller, groschen or pfennige to talers, and doppeltalers.

Here are some doppeltaler from some of the Kingdoms, duchies, and other entities which made up what was to become Germany upon unification in 1871.

Awesome doppeltalers Germanivics !
I collect crowns from all over the world before 1917 and have quite a few thalers. This is my favorite German states coin, 1770 Speyer thaler. Only 5000 minted.

I hope this is considered a German coin by your definition. I really like these.

Recent purchase from the Whitman Baltimore Coin Expo. The label is incorrect. It's actually a 1663 German States thaler from Brunswick-Luneburg-Celle, Davenport No. 6521, minted in Clausthal and distinguished by the mint master's initials LW, for Lippold Weber.

As a fan of German coins, I think this thread needs to be resurrected.
