The photo of Ernst Ludwig does remind me a bit of photos of Hollywood actors like Errol Flynn and Clark Gable.

Rather like the American 3c and 20c coins, the 20pf was an unloved denomination. It was issued as a tiny silver coin from 1873 to 1877 and then as a larger cupro-nickel coin from 1887 to 1892. While 10-pfennig coins were struck in the millions, most 20pf coins only have mintages in the hundreds of thousands, although they were struck by all six then active mints. It was not until 1969 that another 20pf coin was issued, and then only in East Germany.
