Even if you got what you paid for, you should still leave negative feedback. It's not wrong to give negative feedback if there is something wrong and the person refuses to help (even if they told you ahead of time that they refuse to help). Sometimes people act like negative feedback is tantamount to murder, but it's not true.
It will help other bidders in the future, and encourage sellers with more integrity.

Actually, I'm not completely sure, but if the op leaves a neg and the case is not settled in the op's favor, the neg could be removed by ebay.

Quote: Sometimes people act like negative feedback is tantamount to murder, but it's not true.
It will help other bidders in the future, and encourage sellers with more integrity. Negative feedback really isn't something that should just be thrown around like a lot of buyers do. It was really created for the sellers that are running scams or not delivering items, things like that. In this case it seems warranted given the sellers history they know what theyre doing washing out the coins in the pictures. But being quick to leave negative feedback in general does nothing more than chase good and honest sellers away from ebay. The massive sellers sell enough that they dont lose their discount over a couple of ornery buyers, but most sellers dont sell in that type of volume. 2 negatives for the small to medium size seller can mean the end of their discount which means that either they raise their prices or they just say ebay isn't worth it depending on how the experience went. Theres a lot of coin sellers that have given up ebay over the last 2 or 3 years over people being two quick with negatives or using the treat of one to extort things from the seller. Its one reason why ebay has made some attempt to level the field a little more with how horribly slanted it used to be in the buyers favor and its why sellers usually just block people that give any hint they will be a problem because its not worth the risk. It really does nothing for integrity. You either have integrity or you dont. Integrity is doing the right thing because its the right thing, its not doing the right thing because someone is holding something over your head forcing you to do it. In the end scammers will scam regardless of how many negatives are being left in the system, its the good sellers that will be chased off.

Just send it back and open a case. I would. 99.9% sure you will get a refund. The seller has nothing to lose by giving a refund. It doesn't hurt him at all except for shipping, but your return shipping will wash that. He'll just relist it anyway.

There is enough indication in the sellers pictures to indicate that the coin was cleaned prior to the purchase. I would definitely get aggressive with this one. As someone who sells a small number of coins on ebay, and genuinely tries to take pictures that highlight a coins flaws, even if it isn't good for business, this type salesmanship is disgraceful and harmful to ebay as a whole.

Look folks. Bottom line is sellers have to accept returns for coins. No matter what they say in their listings about returns. I return coins almost weekly it seems. I do not even waste time reading return details because they mean nothing. I have been buying (and selling) coins for years on ebay. Yes, I do get blocked by the less professional vendors after some returns but that works in my favor by helping to eliminate buying from crappy vendors. Has anybody reading this not been able to get their refund back after returning a coin? Any other opinions out there?

Open a case for SNAD and let it work through the back and forth system at ebay. I don't care what a Seller's return policy happens to be, eBays policies are what counts. Stop communicating with the Seller and let the system work for you. You'll eventually be asked to return the coin to the Seller for a refund. You'll have to pay return postage. Be sure and use a shipping service that has delivery confirmation/tracking. ebay might give you a return shipping label. Buyers can only receive positive FB. Leaving positive FB with negative comments is a no-no. The FB he has left is probably removable. (Followup FB replies and comments can be a little more tricky) Just be patient and respond to everything ebay asks for in a timely manner. If you lose (doubtful), appeal the decision. This Seller is most likely on ebay's radar screen already.

@davelovesdimes - You return coins weekly? Sheesh, I have never had someone return a coin I sold them on ebay or open a case against me...100% feedback....but I honestly gotta say that your statement makes me consider blocking you. I have never opened a case or given a negative feedback myself because I feel I bid intelligently and know my market and what I am bidding on. I gave a neutral once because the seller waited 23 days to physically ship the item. Am I less professional because I do not want the hassle of someone bidding on my items that has WEEKLY issues?

I kinda like the look of the coin based on the OP's pic. Maybe it's a learning lesson but the seller's pic is obviously over-exposed, perhaps asking for additional photos prior to bidding would have helped. The price of the coin is probably not worth the headache of trying to do battle with the seller and ending up with a neg feedback for the OP.

Went back and looked at the time frame of this and it is way past the window of a return. Treat it as a "lesson learned" and when it happens again you'll be better prepared. Good luck!

I agree with davelovesdimes. I don't care what they state in their ad. If the pics are doctored or deceptive - and many like this ARE - they MUST refund your money as the coin is not as described BY DEFINITION in that the pics are deceptive PURPOSEFULLY! Return the coin and open a dispute with ebay ASAP in this case or any like it - do not delay! I can't imagine ebay not siding with the buyer - and have never been refused a refund myself. IMO we all take risks in buying from pics period. If you only buy from PERFECT HIGH RES pics then you buy very very rarely. So most are bound to get a clunker here and there. DO NOT BEND OVER AND ACCEPT THEM. Buyer's Protection is not overruled or circumvented by the Seller stating WHATEVER THEY WANT about returns in their AD. That is effectively MEANINGLESS! It is like the Grocery Stores putting up signs saying they are not responsible for X,Y,Z. They HOPE you believe the sign and thus don't sue for whatever - but the sign is meaningless in court/law. If something happens that they are legally responsible for - no sign will negate that one iota. It isn't legally binding so it is just an attempt to trick folks into believeing they have no recourse. So if they sold based on bad pics that hide major flaws, then it is returnable for refund. Don't expect the shipping back ( part of the "risk" is both sides are out the shipping even tho in a deceptive pics dispute I think the seller should pay both shipping costs but that isn't the rule unfortunately ). I have to return about 5% of coins because the pics hid or "colored out" flaws to a ridiculous degree. I don't feel I take outrageous risks but some pics are really well doctored or lit and others don't do the coin justice. So it is a mixed bag but sellers who deceive should be exposed and not get away with it.

They may not offer refunds but this coin looks very different than the photo and they may have used a photo editing software or bright light to hide the cleaning marks. File an item not received case against them and if they don't resolve escalate it to support.

Why are we still talking about something that happened months ago? I hate old threads being bumped - it leads to ridiculous, useless conversations like this.
