All,

I've been making some upgrades on my 7070, but I'm losing steam.. I'm liking the way it's coming together, but lately I've hit a wall. What coins do you think would be a substantial upgrade without breaking the bank? Some of the holes are still in holders, haven't broken them free yet.

Lots of pics posted.

Cheers!

You could probably upgrade your Flying Eagle cent for under $100 to a nicer example. Overall, though, you have a lot of really nice-looking coins!

I am not an upgrader, so I cannot help you there, but you have a very nice 7070!

That being said, I think you should fill the empty holes you have (break slabs if you must) before considering upgrades.

I have to agree with what has been said:

The FE would definitely be an affordable upgrade, but if you are looking for motivation just work towards plugging those last holes! A completed 7070 is an amazing accomplishment even if all the coins aren't in the grade you want them to be yet. Think about how great it will be to flip through it with all those holes filled and hopefully you will find some fire to finish it!
Rest in Peace

I agree to fill the empty holes first, then work on upgrades. That empty Commemorative half hole should be easy to fill.

Very nice 7070 set so far!

If you have those coins to fill, I'd say do so, otherwise; just wait for good coins you can afford. I have a long way to go myself, going to play catch up.

All I can say is WoW ! Thats a pretty amazing Set, a whole lot nicer and more complete than my 7070 is anyway.. Honestly, I would fill the holes and call it a day.. Eventually better coins will come along if you work on other sets for example.. Congrats..

You have a VERY nice set already! WOW!

Me? I would look for a Coronet Head Half Cent to fill the first hole. And then... the next hole... and then

... the next...

and...

(Just a spoiler alert: I'm thinking we need to do a "Days of..." thread for the Dansco 7070 US Type Set for the next "Days of..." thread. Yours would be most welcome there!!)

If you're looking to upgrade I feel that a better gem BU morgan wouldn't be difficult. A better proof State Quarter wouldn't be tough either.
The last commemorative half will be easy to fill and a Coronet Half Cent wouldn't break the bank.

Wow, just considering starting a type set. If I do half as well I will be happy. Most excellent!

Sure, it's a beaut, took me several months of searching to find... I'll post a picture later tonight

Also, thanks for the encouragement everyone, I just won a nice near uncirculated FE cent on ebay, hopefully it looks nicer in hand, the pictures were terribly grainy. Is it just me or are Flying Eagle cents really tough to find with decent eye appeal? Part of the reason why I've been putting it off..

I'm also adding a nice MS morgan to that spot tonight. As far as the other holes, the only ones currently unfilled are the Seated dollars. Seated coinage isn't my favorite, so I just pretend those holes aren't there So many other ways to spend 600+ dollars...
