Now I don't want to give away a link just in case someone wants this deal as much as I do, but I found the following item:

PCGS 1880/9 (1880 over 1879) Overdate San Francisco Morgan in MS66 condition. I believe it is VAM-11, Top 50 VAMS.

PCGS price guide says $700.
It's being sold for $514. Is this a good deal? Coin is a white coin with no bad/good toning.

Thanks

This is a pretty common VAM, and MS67 examples are known. I'm thinking $514 in 66 - well over retail for one of the most common high-grade Morgans - is quite a bit too much. As of last year, PCGS and NGC combined had close to a hundred VAM-11's in MS66.

Frankly, I wouldn't add any premium for the variety. Prices are all over the place, because it's common-enough in higher grades that people will risk cracking for an upgrade, but me myself I wouldn't go a lot higher than $325 for it. Too many out there to choose from.

Heritage has already moved 28 1880-S's in MS66 in 2014 alone. There will be another.
