The rim shows well and the sharp crack across 5/8 of this cent is so crisp and clean.
I'd love to have someone explain how exactly this might happen. Is it all in the condition of the flawed planchet that was struck...?

Something that had already been struck twice was struck on top of this coin. Or two coins at same time on top of this one.

Look at where the missing A from canada is and you can see DEI in reverse and a few denticles. Look at 3 o'clock where you can see other expanded letters in reverse.

Great error can't stop looking at it, perfect effect on the obverse too. I think I see 5 waves of strikes maybe its just me. The DEI is very cool.

Looks like it was struck through one (or more) elliptical fragments, giving you the brockage effect. What I can't explain is the reverse design in the indented, struck area, prior to the brockage,unless you invoke multiple strikes on that coin, but the obverse does not show any sign of that, other than minor rim effects... definitely one to see in hand!!
