Earlier there was somebody keeping a tab 'if you purchased all the coins of 2013'.... I wonder how much we'd be up to this year. It seems like we have been hit with a double whammy... increased prices, along with an increase in the number of coins offered. Quite frankly, except for my subscriptions..... I'm out.

You are correct Dcadon. Excluding the $69k gold kilos (because there were 3 last year and only two issued so far this year), the numbers to date including the June release are:
108 coins for $46,897.58 in 2014 and 89 coins for $36,514.49 in 2013.
More coins this year and the average price per coin is up. Seems the Mint is pushing the market upscale.
21% more coins and 28% higher cost.
Total dollars have also risen dramatically. That is, the total potential revenue for the Mint if they sold out of every coin issued would be $130.5M in 2014 and it was only $101.5M at this point in 2013. That's 29% growth in a tight economy.
Not only are they releasing more designs, at higher average prices, they are pumping out more and more coins. Can you say market saturation?

Too bad, I not at home. The catalog has the D-day con picture. I was interested, till I saw the reverse. Well, to have the King on the obverse of Nclt is nice, but....the reverse...it very hard to do the human face in the details, and I didn't like the way as mint did the soldier face. I belive, the coins willl be soon online. I very impresssed from the "exploring Canada " series. The mint put the images of 3-4 coins out of 10. Very nice. But: in the picture it looks as traditional proof, in the description - matte proof, ant it could spoil. In addition - for subscription - again cheap cardboard box....rcm didn't learn, that the package may increase or decrease sales. Another disadvantage - 15.000 mintage, subscription +individual coins. Probably will not buy, but I very liked these coins.

Yeah 10 coins series should have a better box than the cardboard box. That's close to $600.

The only coin I might bite on is the Haunted Canada coin. It looks kitschy in that lame but cool way.
I've heard rumours that a third banknote coin is set to be released very soon. I'm looking forward to it. It's one series that I think hasn't received much love from collectors and I can't understand why. The themes on the coins so far have been classic and great detail.
What do you all think of the specimen baby bunnies set? Is anybody going to buy?

Take a look at the other forum... People will appreciate everything, doesn't metter which theme, just to be low mintage and sells well on the secondary market. This is the key to success.

I too love the banknote series, they are some of the nicest coins in my collection.

Catalogue was in the mailbox today - d'oh. Rep can't reveal even discuss the design until next week but it's in the printed catalogue?!? Anyway, George VI looks good and the reverse is ok IMO. Lots of detail but yeah, it remains to be seen how well those faces turn out on the actual coin. I will get the specimen set later at a discount - I have every specimen set since 1981 so hard to stop now. That said, those bunnies look pretty sad.

I'll probably wait until someone breaks up the set to buy the bunnies. I like the new architect coin, the design and colour look great although I'll probably wait as they've grossly over priced the series even by RCM standards.

Regarding the D-Day coin... Hmmmm.... Quote: as CC-Ottawa said: Catalogue was in the mailbox today - d'oh. Rep can't reveal even discuss the design until next week but it's in the printed catalogue?!? I really admire the internal communication at the mint. However, I do like the idea of George VI on the obverse and the reverse will probably look better on the actual coin. Since it is an important date to commemorate I think I will be ordering one. I'm also tempted by the coloured Beaver, but how come it's not in the catalogue? The Canadian Coat of Arms should look very impressive, but the price is prohibitive, especially with the price of gold continuing to drop.

I received my catalogue in the mail today as well. I think it might be my favorite RCM catalogue of 2014. It's mostly filled with traditional style coins celebrating Canada's history vs. gimmicky, pop culture coins. The first coin in the silver $15 "Explore Canada" series looks to be nicely done - it reminds me of the 1989 Mackenzie River Exploration silver dollar. I'm tempted to pick one up. The series might turn out to be a great tribute to Canada's upcoming 150th anniversary, but I'm not planning on subscribing. The WWI Canadian Expeditionary Force $5 silver coin also looks interesting; it's the other among the new releases that I'm likely to purchase.
