I agree with those who think the Haunted Canada coin is all hype.
The mintage of the Haunted Canada is too high for the coin value to go up in value. People who are buying multiples of it are going to be disappointed.

Compare to other colorized 25c coins: 1st Bird coin - 25k mintage and selling for $250+ 1st Glow-in-the-dark coin - 25k mintage and selling for approx. $100 1st Haunted Canada coin - combined mintage of 15k across RCM issue with CoA and CanadaPost folder... I'd suggest we wait and see what the 1st Haunted Canada coin will be selling for once the remaining coins have been released in the series. Maybe it'll be a flop, but I very much doubt it.

^true but also consider who it would appeal to, almost the entire world knows about birds, and dinosaurs, but the haunted Canada is not that known, myself I am in Canada but never heard of this until now, didn't ever hear about the story either, I think that would also make a difference on the popularity of the coin.

There's a lot of interest in the paranormal, just look at the variety of ghost hunting or ghost stories shows on cable TV. This is basically aimed at the tourist market, from the articles I've read on the Internet. I've read in 1 article this will be a Multi year release, ( Canada Post), with more images/ stores to come. Only time will tell, I think these coins would be much cooler with a glow in the dark feature. I like the other 4 images better. Notice how these coins correspond to each province and a popular tourist site. I bet the banff Springs could sell 1,000 coins by Christmas. This coin has several articles written about it. So it's a prominent release. It's anyone's guess what the future holds for the series. One positive it's not $110, like the lost ships series. Three coins get very expensive. Where I can buy 4 haunted Canada coins for the price of the Empress of Ireland coin. It's the age old opportunity costs rationale. It's up to each collector/flipper to weigh their own opportunity costs.

Agree omxfl...lets wait and see. I don't really care anyway as I just bought it for my personnel collection and to enjoy it and don't plan on selling it.

I also agree with omxfl. In my opinion it's pretty early to tell right now whether this coin will take off. It is more often the case that the 1st coin in a series does better than the following coins and 1st coins tend to do better on the secondary market as well. The coins in this series are relatively inexpensive so there isn't much of a risk to take even if the series turns out to be a dud. I think it will be a very popular series for a long time to come given the reception its been getting.

Yeah,it does seem very popular and only time will tell. I have to admit at first I wasn't sure if I liked it but the hype got to me and it grew on me so I bought it.
The only other coin I bought this month was the D-Day and I really like it !

This is another coin that was below the radar, when released to Master Club, much like Superman. Lets say the coin isn't flip able. It can still be an inexpensive Canadiana gift, especially to those interested in ghost stories.
There's also going to be the awareness created by these stamps and postcards being sent in the mail. This could be an awareness campaign, to make some of these sites more well known or popular. Only certain coins make the news or the Wall Street journal. I wonder why there was a big news release on this coin, compared too other releases?

Quote: There's a lot of interest in the paranormal You got the point here... paranormal in itself is enough to sell this coin. I wasn't aware of the story myself before the coin, but discovering it with the coin is a nice thing. Not sure that people won't be interested in this one only because it's from Canada and they don't know the place. IMO, this coin has an international appeal too.

@ Opera12 your coin is a very nice image, I will add it to my growing list of wanted coins!! I'm starting to wait until I can get the coins at a discount first. There are so many sales lately, a person just needs to wait for someone to post the news!! I feel this still a very nice set. The only issue I have, it needs a nice wooden box, like the 1 Oz coins. A person is spending over $400, if paying for shipping. Don't skimp on the display case, they are saving by not sending the clamshell.
The switch to cardboard base display cases, is a second rate move, the mint should be ashamed. I just finished reading the 2003 report, where they spout platitudes about wanting to give the collector value for their investment. They also mention producing collector coins, that will increase in the secondary market, so it spurs interest in their coin offerings. This switch to subpar display cases, is no way to meet those goals!

@pocketchange50 - I admit the box for the set is cheesy! I was thinking of getting the old O Canada case from APMEX to keep those in there. The current case is so flimsy that to safeguard it, I keep it in the shipping box it came in. I bought the first coin before I subscribed, since initially RCM was not offering this subscription to US customers. Then they wised up. At least the shipping charges are $2.99 per coin instead of $ 12.00 they usually charge

Very nice coin, Opera12mi, thanks for sharing.
also ordered it, as other only "animal" related 2014 O Canada coins. IMO - one of the best in the 1/2oz coins in 2013-2014 series.
P.S. Do you really use Opera 12.00 for browsing, or it just consequence?
