Very interesting. I will have to let the experts decide if they are keepers.

I will defer to greg or some others regarding the value of the checks.
I myself would now start searching for a token(s) and/or stock/bond (if they had any issued) for those companies to add to the collection. That would be an interesting project.

Neat checks! Techwriter is the most knowledgeable on these. You definitely got them for a good price, though they all appear fairly common. The ones with the vignettes of buildings are going to be the most desirable. I would guess these might bring $2 or $3 each on ebay. Thanks for posting, coinfun!

Wow this thread has seen more posts than I ever anticipated 5 years ago. My latest addition are 3 from the Farmers Bank of Pollock. I simply like the design. -MV

Here's an interesting federal check that just arrived. Made out by the Treasurer of Washington, DC for "Breaking stone in N. Cap. (North Capitol) St." The total was only $1.26 -- probably day wages for a laborer. Interesting that it was never cashed, so perhaps it never got issued as intended.

This attractive 1864 Certificate of Deposit finally showed up after 36 days in transit! I had actually given up and requested a refund just before it arrived. I like the pastoral scene in the upper right.

Odd that a railroad bank would feature a ship on their bill of exchange. But it's a nice vignette. Pre-Civil War, I believe.
