The date on this Susan B. Anthony has been flattened by the waffle press, but the rims look to be narrow. If so, it would be a 1979.

1979-SBA-Waffle-Cancelled?

First, is this a narrow rim '79 SBA? The PCGS slab only says that it's a Susan B., $1, Mint Cancelled, Brilliant Uncirculated coin with the certification number 403659.89/14747762.

Second, if it is a 1979 SBA, why would it have been waffle cancelled some time after June of 2003 when the mint started using the waffle process to cancel coins? That's at least 23 years after it was minted.

Third, is it common to see a 1979 SBSs that have been waffle cancelled? All the cancelled SBAs I've seen with dates have been 1999s.

Fourth, what is the PCGS "Problem Code" .89? I can't find it on the PCGS list.

Any help would be appreciated!

I recall seeing an article stating a Bicentennial Ike was found waffle canceled so I'd guess a 1979 SBA could get waffled too.

The reason the waffle the eject coins is so that someone who find them in recyle scrap can't just take them and spend them. The would be the right size/weight. So cancelled they make them.
