Looks like tarnish from circulation. I have a beat up Hawaii State Quarter that looks grey like your half.

That's what I figured. It's just odd how it's so uniform. I don't do much with halves, so I just thought I'd check.

Good point, I didn't even think about that when I posted the picture!
Anyway, I figure it's just circulation. I just haven't seen one that was uniformly dark gray like that, with no damage. I like it... It's got attitude!
