You are correct - except for the spelling of "nickel".

Trivia: This is one of the few remaining solid cupronickel coins in use in the world today - the American "nickel" and Australian "silver coins" are a couple of other examples. The rising prices of copper and nickel in the past couple of decades has forced most users of this composition to switch to cheaper plated-steel coinages.

Trivia: The primary currency unit of Kuwait is the Kuwaiti dinar, which is subdivided into 1,000 fils. The Kuwaiti dinar is one of the few currencies currently in use to be subdivided into thousandths; most currencies (such as the US and Australian dollars) are subdivided into hundredths instead. Thus, 100 fils is 1/10th of a dinar.

Trivia: The name of the currency unit, "fils", is derived from the mediaeval Islamic copper coin, the "falus" - a name which is in turn derived from the old Byzantine currency unit, the "follis". And technically, "fils" is singular. The plural forms for this word are rather complicated, which is why most English-language catalogues don't bother trying to render the plural words properly; as it is written on this coin in Arabic, the plural is "filsin".

Face value: 1/10th of a Kuwaiti dinar is currently worth about 35 US cents, so in that sense you technically made a "profit" accepting it for a quarter.

KM stands for Krause-Mishler, the namesakes of a vastly popular series of world coin catalogs.

i really need to find a way to remove that from my spellchecker.

all the tidbits of trivia are interesting! it is my 18th foreign country to get a coin from. not really worried about profit as it would probably all be lost in exchange fees, but it is basically a dime that is worth 35 cents. cool! thanks!

now if I only knew how it got here.

I know what km numbers are, just seems weird something from 2006 to have one as low as 14 so I figured each country just starts with 1 and counts forwards by whoever is making the index, and unlike Dewey decimal system, there is no country code/index added to the km number? I was jsut told to always find the km number of anything I find in case there wa any information someone could find about a coin based on it.

Correct. The KM numbering system is basically chronological in order; KM 1 for a country is the first coin type that country made, and so forth.

The numbers for Kuwait are so low because Kuwait has not been issuing its own coinage for very long. Kuwait was a British Protectorate prior to 1961 when it gained independence. As a British Gulf State, it did not issue its own separate coinage but used Indian rupees as coinage, just like other British Gulf States did.
