I have an answering machine at home. I never answer phone calls. I wait to see if it is someone I want to talk to. Such phone calls as yours are people that just won't talk to an answering machine.

I just ask Boxers or Y-Fronts? I have a similar ? for ladies soliciting me, but decency prevents typing it here...
I do have some sympathy for the poor slobs making the calls, even if they are scum cold calling to rip me off. I had friends who worked the phone solicitation gig in college. How's this for a work-study job: the bottom 5% (worst performers) don't get invited back to work the next night! That's a harsh reality check w/o even needing a degree!

Just ask them to hang on for a second, you'll be right back, and see how long it takes for them to hang up.

Curious, how is it that they got your number in the first place? I'm inclined to think you have made purchases in the past with a coin business and they somehow got your number? May be worth while trying to figure out if any online business have sold your personal information to a marketing company?

I deal with several companies on line, have had several transactions with Village Coin in NH and with Alaska Coin Company. I doubt either would sell my data. I buy a lot on ebay but my phone # is not available to sellers so that's not it. Of course there is always Littleton... they make a good whipping boy in cases like this. I am on their list but only bought a couple albums some time ago from them.

I had a call like this recently (govmint I think). He called trying to sell me a Canadian coin I had never even heard of (probably not even released by their mint). I said I only collect US coins. He sharply replied with "why". I said that is what I enjoy. He then continued his speech. I asked him how he got my number and he said they were affiliates with Silvertowne. I called Silvertowne and told them to remove my information from their database as I would no longer be a returning customer. Its a shame too they have some decent deals on bars.

Quote: I prefer to torture them... Start with..what did you have for dinner... And get progressively worse.. I have a very interesting job. I sometimes go into specifics with people who call me trying to sell something.

Man, it must really suck to cold call people and try to fleece them of their life savings. But you think YOUR job sucks, I'm a morgue diener. Never heard of it? A diener is a morgue worker responsible for handling, moving, and cleaning the corpse. So let me tell you about the body that came in today. Hello? Hello? Guess he hung up.

I once bought a coin from the Westminster Collection - I think it was the UK Henry VIII commemorative £5 which they were offering at face value when it was practically unobtainable from banks. I had several calls after that when they tried to sell me things like colorized Tristan da Cunha crowns or Gibraltar gold sets, but they seem to have given up now...

"Lee Marshall?" Sounds like the name of a cop from a 1970s crime show.
