Ive decided it is time to get rid of the bulk of my Sestertii, among other things, so while the weather is shoddy, I've listed a bunch of things on ebay. I doubt much will sell, but with free listings, I might as well. This raises a different question - Auctions. Does anyone have experience of any UK auction houses? Its about time I sold my Zenonis and Republican semis on, but I feel they'd do better at auction than on ebay. I tried emailing CNG, but I've had no response.

Ben, Sorry, but other than CNG, I have no experience with UK auction houses. I'm curious: have you looked into London Ancient Coins, Ltd? I know that firm uses the Sixbid platform for auctions ( http://www.sixbid.com/browse.html?auction=1407), and that they auction a lot of Roman coinage, and that their website ( http://www.lacoins.co.uk/) clearly spells out their auction terms. They also sell through VCoins and thus subscribe to the Dealer Code of Ethics of that site. They seem above board. Might be worth looking into if you haven't already.

Ill take a look, I've heard nothing but good things of them and I've bought from them before. In the meantime, I went to previous auction records, found the highest price for a Zenonis ($3110!), and I've contacted that Auction House (Numismatica Ars Classica).

Ben, Roma numismatics, based in London are a very good option also. I have bought from them many times but never sold through them, they do have regular auctions though.

For high end stuff you're probably good with Baldwin's or Spink, those two tend to get the better results on high end (Eur 1000+) material. Otherwise go to one of the German or Swiss firms like Busso Peus, Munzhandel, Dieter Grony, Leu, Lanz, M&Mm etc. all of them are very good.

NAC declined me, so ill send out emails to everyone suggested, see if anyone bites. Planet, if you're thinking about selling your Macrinus, they usually do well on ebay. I think the additional fees from comission could actually leave you with less. You might as well try and get an evaluation, though.

Another option you have is to get a dealer to sell them for you. Several on vcoins offer this service and there commission rates are probably not too bad relative to auction commission. You just might have to wait a while for the coin/s to sell.

Good idea. I think that would work for the semis, but perhaps the Zenonis would benefit from an auction environment. Ill look trhough completed sales and see whos best for it.
