Quote: Looks like in one case he created a BIN for 99 cents for 140 ASEs and then did a side deal for $2,800. That isn't covered by buyer protection! With all non-respect to fools, idiots, etc. ==== Any buyer who thinks they will get an ASE for 99 cents, deserves a kick in the pants. I mean REALLY

Quote: This crook just received 2 more negs to day, he's now at 90%. Looks like his scam netted him closer to $100,000. Will be interesting to see how many more people were taken.
What in the world is WRONG with ebay?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1860-S-rare...191086746443That one got me, raw coin, (photos are now gone), little to no description, but a positive feedback, wonder if he was selling coins to some shill bidders (where the coin didn't really exist, just to make some feedback that he had/was capable of handling high dollar coins. Who really buys something like this raw? If I was looking at a legitimate coin dealer on ebay selling stuff like this I would contact them directly, I would think most coin dealers (legitimate ones) will end an auction on a coin in this amount to sell directly. Not going around ebay exactly, as most dealers will mention their inventory is available at shows or at their store and may be canceled on ebay due to previous sales. I would never just buy a raw coin online for $17K+ without seeing it in person or at a show, or having another friend dealer in the area check it out first. Crazy but as P.T. Barnum said - "There is a sucker born every minute" and this guys feedback proved it in spades. Hope he get's busted soon, and still has enough to make the coming court ordered reparations.

ebay is clueless right now. They have a knack for responding to problems very slowly. Benefit of the doubt, illness, etc. They say let the automated INR/Dispute process system they have in place deal with it. No need to escalate it to Trust and Safety, Corporate Security or to the city, state or Federal authorities. This one is going to cost them dearly when all is said and done. By the time they catch up with him the money will be long gone. Everybody (except for the goofus that did the silver eagle transaction "off ebay" ) should get their money back. ("Get the item you ordered or get your money back!") EBay/Paypal knows where the money went to when it left the Paypal account. The key now is getting the ATM and bank video surveillance pics to see what the perp looks like that withdrew the money. Even with the sunglasses and baseball cap he's probably wearing it would be a start. If he wrote checks there is video of when/ where he cashed them--- check cashing stores, casinos, banks (most also fingerprint people that cash checks now). They can go back and look at the footprints he's left all over the internet. Which computers and ISP's he has used, dates and times he used them, where he used them. It's just a matter of time, and the amount of effort they want to expend, to figure out who he is. Once he goes NARU'd you'll know the light was finally turned on at ebay.

I think PayPal may be able to seize the sellers PayPal account. Not sure, but that would obviously be the best way to interrupt any fraud from being concluded if the seller hadn't already found a way to drain it.

UPDATE: more negs still coming in on this crook, but, ebay still hasn't NARU'd him.....they did remove his top rated seller status lol. This crook has fled the state with over quarter Million dollars from ill-gotten ebay scams. ebay and many of it's clientele are going to take a bath on this scam.

It's sickening this can even happen. I understand holding funds for a while could be annoying, but darn with a 17k$ purchase? cmon now.

ebay really needs to get some bad press on this one. Truth be told ... ebay is a scammer's paradise! I expect that some federal crimes have been committed. Thanks to some of our most astute members, the dots will be much easier for investigators to connect. Way to go, guys!

ebay won't say anything publicly about this. They'll end up paying everybody back except for the idiots that did the .99 cent silver eagle "Buy It Now's". (Remember, "Get the item you paid for or get your money back!" Is the motto right now.) ebay knows the who, what, when and where's of this scam. Following the money trail is all it takes. It'll probably end up getting dumped off on the Postal Inspectors to prosecute. The vast majority of the law breaking involved the mail system to facilitate and complete the fraud. Local law enforcement would pass the buck since nobody was "hurt" and white collar crime isn't their cup of tea. The FBI and the IRS could get interested if they think they can score some asset seizures if this is anyway related to organized crime.

Really there has to be a better way to buy a roll of Silver Eagles then ebay at that cost, I mean how do these people have so much money yet can be so stupid. What about amex or some of these other dealers, if I wanted to spend that kind of money or had that kind of money it wouldn't be on ebay. I have been on ebay since 1998, I remember some of the old rules like leaving feedback both ways so you would never leave negative feedbacks as a buyer so you didn't get one back. It seems ebay has never been able to get it right over the years.
