"Again this is not an investment coin... its purely an exchange of money."
These coins are de facto non-legal tender. No bank has to take them for any debt, public or private, nor does any merchant have to accept them for any good or service. So they are at best a barter token, and at worst a false advertising seniorage scam taking advantage of gullible collectors.
If these coins are so easy to spend, I have $80 FV in $20 coins anyone can have for FV+$5 S/H.

Quote: I'll be getting this for sure... it will get me enough for MC status and looks like a nice coin. I wonder how many they will release each year.
MC status is not really worth it. The only benefit is free shipping. Yes, you get early notice for new issues but with none of the Mint coins this year doing that well, what's the point.

You also get first crack at new issues. A lot of items have been going to "awaiting stock" very early lately.

Quote: These coins are de facto non-legal tender Actually they are legal tender, I have had no trouble liquidating them when needed. Quote: MC status is not really worth it. MC status is a pretty big deal, the free shipping alone will save you money. Also getting first crack at the new coins is a HUGE bonus. I have missed a few coins because MC/Dealers bought them before they when public.

Presently the mint is offering 'Free Shipping - Limited time offer' with any purchase over $100. So that sort of negates the benefits for me. I wrote my 'Rep' about that, not that I want to ruin it for the 'others' but that they should come up with some other benefits for M/C members that they can't so easily give away.

I would rather free shipping all the time as a MC member.... Even if other can get free shipping they dont get first crack as new coins. I wish I had MC when the 5 penny silver set came out, something I really wanted that missed out on. I still don't have a set because I refuse to pay $450 for one.

The MC survey they did in March gave a lot of hints of big changes including dropping free shipping as a benefit.
For me, MC has considerably less value than it did even just a couple of years ago. No coins are selling out quickly and as far as I recall, none have not been available from other sources. Even if a buyer had to pay a slight premium to get a 'hot' coin in the secondary market, it would likely be less expensive overall than paying full price for all of your coins from the Mint just to be able to get that hot coin at issue.
That is, buy all of your coins at 10-20% from dealers and other sources and pay a little but more to get that one hot coin a year in the secondary market.

What I don't understand is that on the RCM site under the MC showing the benefits, it says that one benefit is: "Special products and exclusive offers â€" A whole new meaning to coin collecting, for members only." I have been a member for almost 3 years, I have not seen or heard of a MC exclusive offer, or product. In the past there were reports which included special coins, The Mint makes Barrels of cash they can afford to send something nice out to their preferred customers.

i have been an MC member since 2012 when I first started collecting. I remember when I reached MC, I was all excited because I would have new perks!
now, 2 years later, I can't even get a simple e-mail to let me know when they have new stuff. I still only get the catalog at home... which always arrive around the 10th of the month.
Really? what's the point anymore! true enough, I get free shipping! yay! that's all I get though... kinda suck if you ask me! :(

Just to get the thread back on track...... I really like the $200 for $200 coin. Getting the larger 2 oz. size allows for better detail of the images on the coin. This coin is what it is meant to be a collectible with some uniqueness. It's only the 2nd time RCM has made a 2 oz. silver that I'm aware of, Toronto coin wasn't made my RCM. Everyone collects for different reasons but for me, this fits a nice niche that not too many of us have. Putting all of these larger sized coins together will be a nice theme as long as the designs are obviously pleasing and consistent. Looking forward to what else comes out in this series.

Besides the Glass Venetian Coins, what coins are you talking about that have sold out before reaching the public that are NOT available for issue price elsewhere? Canada Post have free shipping too. Sold out means nothing, it is all hype by the Mint because you can get the coins anywhere. Often cheaper too.
