I used to play this when I was a kid.
First we have to agree that the subjects are the same. Coin number 1 was sold at an auction for loads of wonga. The size and weight of this coin was 18mm 5.44g.

Coin number 2 is 17.33mm and 5.446g.

Each coin appears to be the same object. Each has scuffs and scratches that could only be from wear and not from the original dies (probably). Now I am not suggesting for one minute that the seller of coin number 2 has done anything wrong and probably bought his coin in good faith.

But can you spot the differences?

Coin No 1

Coin No 2

I will start you off:

And another one:

Do I see a pearl?

There are others, can you find them?

I don't see the need to exacerbate the situation any more.

The only difference I see is the lighting which highlights and hides different features on the coin. Beside that it is the same coin.

At first glance I was inclined to agree with the previous 2 comments ......

But after enlargement and comparison of the two I am not so sure anymore. The photos have different lighting and as can be seen the color is different. Pure gold is 'screaming' yellow so I believe the top pic is more correct as far as the color goes.

As mentioned I was inclined to dismiss the suggestion but I do notice that pic #1 has a very noticeable 'ding' mark on the right nostril. The lighting on pic #2 is somewhat more angled leaving darker shadows. But the 'ding' has now vanished. Now it may well have been 'retouched' to hide it. The problem with digital photos is you could add or delete anything !

But it clearly has vanished.
