Found this interesting cent a couple of weeks ago out of a MWR. Not sure if it's PMD or something worth saving. Anyone tell me what caused this? Reverse is normal. Also, the edge isn't smooth. Looking at it from the side, there is a raised edge on the side with the damage. Thanks, MM2

It was struck through a very late-stage die cap. In other words, a planchet adhered to the obverse die and struck many coin before striking your coin. Each time it struck a new coin, the planchet that was adhered to the die thinned out more and more. Eventually the metal between the die and planchet was so thin that when it struck this coin, details of the die were transferred through the die cap.
