And I have heard the same thing you have said from everyone I have talked to that have been there. We are staying at the falls for a day or two before we go out to the safari. I have had people think they were going to fly into New York in the morning, rent a car and be in Idaho in the after noon. You say that you have never been to Zimbabwe, and it is only 600 km (372 miles) away. Carson City is over 2,500 miles (4023 km) from Philadelphia. I live in Boise, Idaho and the next major metropolitan area is Portland, which is 430 miles (692 km) away. So while the Comstock Lode was huge, it did take a while to transport silver around in those days. Report this Post to the Staff

Actually, the operation of the Carson City mint was more due to political than practical considerations. The government quickly discovered that sending bullion from the Comstock to the more efficient San Francisco mint actually saved money.
