Despite checking all sources known to me I still haven't been able to find out more about this 8 reales cob from my collection. Primarily I'd like to know its mint. At first I presumed it to be from Potosi, but it seems that even on Spanish (motherland) cobs the second small shield (Portugal) is not always there.
The crown seems to be a bit unusual inasmuch as its base is straight, with a peculiar pattern (0 III 0 III 0 III O). To the right of the shield the last 2 "I"s of VIII can be seen.
There could be a partial date on the cross side: 16** (lower part of "6" only).
Comments and thoughts are very much appreciated!

I've checked numerous books and as of now I don't have a positive identification :/
That's indeed not an easy one, but I'm sure that crown design is THE hint to look for :)

diatonix. I have looked at all my books for a crown base that even resembles yours. Nothing at all have I found. I think Mathieu is right and that is the clue you have to look for.

Gosh, if I found the proper one, then you made an amazing hit !

It could be the following :
Felipe IV, Cartagena de Indias, 8 reales 1626 E
NER on left, VIII on right of the shield
(Calico Tipo 71, Num 252)

I can say it is not Lima, Mexico or Potosí...even not peninsular, but can not say more and, of course, I can be wrong

Apart from MathieuMa, another expert (from Spain) corroborates that it can only be a Cartagena 8 reales cob. The give-away is the missing pomegranate. Colombian silver cobs are said to be extremely rare.
