IMHO, it'd be best for the OP to remain silent about specific details, but to let us know how the case officially unfolds. So far, all we pretty much have here is hypothetical, generic info; no slander, methinks. Newspaper accounts would be interesting ... The facts speak for themselves.
That said, we all want to be assured that every offender AND victim receives justice. I recall one case that passed through my hands wherein an offender was unable to afford restitution. Five years passed, and I learned that the offender was named as a beneficiary in an estate. Upon my relating this to the presiding judge, the estate was attached, and the victims were fully compensated within months thereafter. Better late, than never. The wheels of justice do turn when duly oiled.

Very glad to hear everything has worked out for you.
That low-life needs to be put away for a while.

where did the crime occur? I had thought you were in Somerset NJ. I am curious. I am a PI and want to see if this pops up on the radar.

PI = Private Investigator. Quote: but I'm not posting anything about names and locations just yet till I know it wont cause cause a priblem. Wise call. By the way, I moved this to the Numismatic Crime forum as suggested.

I have to admire the OP's patience with this matter. If this had happened to me I would have taken a baseball bat to the scum and retrieved my coins personally

Believe me, you have no idea what crossed my mind. My wife gets all the credit for me not being in jail right now. The way I was thinking is accidents happen every day. People get run over on sidewalks, hit with stray bullets, houses and cars burn, mugged etc. and I have a few lunatics that work for me that could have easily been persuaded for a few bucks. But in the end I followed her advice and the advice of some people on here and it worked. From what I was told he is still in jail with a pretty hefty bail set. I'm in my nice comfy house, with my wife, kids and dog. And I'm buying PL morgans online.

Wow, that is insane. There's a whole list of felonies I can think of they should charge him with. Grand theft, grand larceny, commercial burglary, extortion, and not to mention all the stuff that comes with attempting to sell the stolen items and sending them through the mail. A true scumbag who should be put away. Good luck with everything and hopefully all your coins come back unharmed.

Quote: and I have a few lunatics that work for me that could have easily been persuaded for a few bucks. Hey, just a friendly advice; DON'T HIRE LUNATICS OR THIEVES! Especially if you handle tens of 1000s worth of coins. I would only have trustworthy ppl I know and trust (which you told us you didn't with the thief) in that kind of environment
