Help! 1865 Plain 5 Doubled Die Reverse / DDR ?

Pontil207 New Member United States 2 Posts	Posted 08/07/2014 09:33 am Hi! I am a newbie to this forum and hoping to gain some information regarding a 1865 plain 5 Indian cent I recently purchased. The reverse of this coin definitely shows doubling. However, I can't tell if its strike or Longacre doubling? There is doubling on the shield, Ribbons, leafs, and arrows. I would also like to hear opinions regarding the grade (Coin is an appealing red/brown that really doesn't show in the images). Not use to posting pictures here. Hopefully you can see the details. There is a DDR on the fancy 5 type, and it commands a significant premium. As for the grade, high AU. Looks like a touch of wear. Nice coin. Report this Post to the Staff

If you look closely at the doubling around the shield, the shape of the secondary image doesn't quite match that of the shield, as it has been smashed by the die hitting the coin a second time. The doubling effect appears minimal to my eye, so-called hub-doubling? Overall, it's a very pleasing and interesting coin. Report this Post to the Staff
