I really wanted a CC Morgan dollar in my collection but most of them are a little out of my price range. I was able to snag this one for 42 bucks. I like that it's from the first year of production as well. I plan to carry it as a pocket piece to just use as a cool conversation piece. And maybe it will even wear down to a lowball one day.

Anyway, my guess would be AG-03 based on photograde.

For sure. Looks like it's been through a lot in 136 years. It would be great to know its history. I honestly prefer coins like this to ones in pristine condition that looked to have been locked away for forever.

Dave, I know pretty much nothing about VAMs. What do you see on this coin that makes you think it is that VAM variety? And does that add any value to the coin?
Rest in Peace

The center arrow nock on your coin is as long as the arrow feathers making it a "Long Nock" and the mint mark location matches the 1B reverse die. It is not an added value variety.

That coin had hard days, but that is how a REAL coin should look like when money was money and not useless cupro nickel
