My 1872 50c. I bought it for below melt value some years ago. It's got some scratches indicative of a very harsh cleaning, but I don't know whether the raised pieces of metal under the 'E' of 'Regina' are a Cud or PMD!

Cud generally is off the rime and seeminly melds with lettering. I believe that is PMD, possibly some attempt at a hole or ex-jewellry? Looks like a solder mark. Still, Vicky halves at melt is unheard of. Nice find

NumisRob's '72 looks legit. Nice coin but for the harsh cleaning and solder spot.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning... -from PCGS website

Yes, I must be mistaken, just looking at the bridge of the nose and the shape of the 2 being similar to Mike's than Zonad's coin.

Thanks for you opinions, guys. The coin looks pretty normal in hand. It was part of a mixed foreign collection put together in the 1960s that the dealer sold to me as a lot - the previous owner had stored the coins in old 2"x2" flips inside a 35mm slide storage box. It couldn't possibly be a modern Chinese counterfeit. I'll take some better photos and post them...

I don't see any legitimate reason to doubt the coin's authenticity. I compared the pictures to my EF 1872-H and I don't see anything wrong....

NumisRob, your 1872 50 cents has a repunched S in CENTS. It's a nice variety to have.

George,
There aren't any designated days for post-George V coinage as this is the "22 Days of Classic Canadian Coinage" but you'd be welcome to post the day after we do the Provinces.
