The coin impressions are correct with portraits and legends raised. The vase is brass but the coins look like they were pressed into a thin flat piece of copper which was then wrapped around the vase. If one would peal the copper sheet off the base I am sure incuse impressions of the coin designs would be found. The coins are all Vereinsthalers, 2 and 5 marks of the German states plus an Austrian florin and an Italian 2 lire coin dated 1887. There are no 3 mark coins which would mean that this vase was made before 1908 when the 3 mark coins replaced the old thalers in circulation.
