Authentic set of the Twelve Caesars in Silver Denarius Julius Caesar 44 BC-96 AD

Recently there was a post concerning "The 12 Caesars".
I tripped over a listing for a set for sale (not mine - I don't have one) on ebay at present for $19,990 see

Although outwardly impressive topcat the set can be had with a little time and for far less money. You could probably assemble such a set in that condition for about $5K. I suppose having them already together adds to the value.

CNG currently has a similar set in casing up for sale right now. Current bid is 2300. Looks to have better quality coins overall as well although the ebay one does have a DIVVS IVLIVS denarius and the Caligula appears to be better. The CNG does have a Caesar portrait denarius though

While there are some coins that are difficult to find, ie Caligula, Vitellius, and Ortho they are not impossible. I agree about $5k would be a more realistic price.

Ahhh that does seem pricey!
I can't find the CNG set - do you have a link by any chance? I'd be very interested in that...

I just noticed the Caligula is a modern forgery. It would be a fun hunt to chase one down for the set.

Thanks Whizb4ng.
Can I ask what would a fair price be for this set given that the Caligula is a forgery?

This is probably a novice question; however, CNG lists the 'estimate' as $2,000. I understand that the actual selling price can be much greater. However, in that case, why would the estimate be listed so low?

It gives common folks the feeling they have a chance to win it.
