Nice for a raw coin and sold by a dealer. 301329629978Noted the large scratch or whatever on reverse at ten o'clock. Looks almost too good to be true or maybe I have been looking at too many beaters? Thank you. *** Edited by Staff to clarify topic title. Titles are important! ***

If it is REAL....why would Aspencoins list it at such a low start price? I do genuinely believe if... it looks too good to be true.... It probably is. Id tred carefully

Very often good ebay dealers will list fairly expensive coins with a £0.99 starting price. Others start higher. I don't think it should automatically raise suspicion. There is an argument that it attracts more attention and higher realised prices in the end.

Good point--I think Aspen starts everything at 99 cents.
I wonder if Eastern Fantasy LLC has progressed to the low mintage florin "miao" producing or at least tooling? If anyone has any insight, thanks--I wasn't planning on bidding on this as I try to avoid big dealer auctions, but wanted to know for future reference.

I think that the "scratch" is a die-crack.
I've dealt with Aspen several times over the years, and have had no issues. I think that they usually start their auctions at $0.99.

Quote: I think that the "scratch" is a die-crack. Shame the images can't be enlarged as it looks like it has a line of damage on the Obv from about 2.30 - 4 O'clock, but impossible to be sure without closer piccies.

Seems to be a radial die crack on the reverse at 10'oclock. In the British grading system, this is a VF coin, (still nice to the eye however). There is a big jump between VF and EF (British) values.
Gothic florins saw LOTS of circulation, they replaced 1/2 crowns during their issue and as a result, are very scarce (in an absolute sence), in EF and better.
I guess that most of the very poor grade Gothic florins have long since been melted, and so Unc. coins are only RELATIVELY scarce to the lower grade examples these days.
They have great relevence to Australian coinagage history, because only British silver and bronze coins circulated 1825 to 1910.

The obverse always appeared to wear quickly. Top quality coins EF+ are a premium. Any obverse with good hair detail will be sought after.I'm glad I'm a type collector. Beware of any 1864 die 4,these are swamping the market and are Chinese. On another forum we discovered a scum bag was selling 2 a month making BIG money. We also found his supplier. He was hounded by forum members and reported to ebay.He was also selling 1847 gothics.
