These look a bit odd to me. Would dipping cause this? They have a somewhat matte surface and the color seems a little off. I just noticed they all have little black toning spreckles, too.

I've been away from my Canada large cents for a while so maybe I'm just imagining things..

Cleaned with ketchup.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

Try it! My grandaughter didn't like the dark toning of the GeoVI large cents I gave her, she looked online and tried cleaning with ketchup, they look very much like the OP's first coin now.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

I agree with DBM. I tried cleaning a penny with ketchup when I was a kid and it did come out a little like that.
