What Causes This Type Of Color & Surface.. Dipping Maybe?

xshift Pillar of the Community United States 2669 Posts	Posted 10/13/2014 6:49 pm These look a bit odd to me. Would dipping cause this? They have a somewhat matte surface and the color seems a little off. I just noticed they all have little black toning spreckles, too. I've been away from my Canada large cents for a while so maybe I'm just imagining things.. Report this Post to the Staff

My grandaughter didn't like the dark toning of the GeoVI large cents I gave her, she looked online and tried cleaning with ketchup, they look very much like the OP's first coin now.
