The mint mark until 1990 were applied by hand with a punch to the dies before they were used for the other mints except for the Philly ones for cents. They were sometimes moved in location if they were too close to the date or miss punched over itself and was errant in location. Thus the multiple locations of the mint marks 2-3 misplaced ones happened and they are called RPMs. Often denoted by location or types of RPMs.

Coppercoins and other sites list then by direction. Not all sites have the same numbers for each die as they often attribute them in order of when they were found. Wexler re-numbered his and listed his by strength and then adds to his numbers later the newer found examples. CONECA probably has the shortest lists. Coppercoins has a medium amount. Wexler has the largest list. Why the difference? Some list more minor ones than others do. Coppercoins has the most listed with images. Wexler is starting to list his files in a separate book per year. I've got the 1959-D book.(234 pages) There are 111 listed for this year in the publication. Judging from this one book, the 1960-D must be at least two books. They are a nice hard bound book. More for the hard core variety RPM cent collector.

Got this one today, 1954D-1MM-001. Pretty nice coin although the south D can be seen in hand but does not show up well in the pic.

I really like the one I got today, 1957D-1MM-005, 1-1957D-1DO-002. (This one is a duplicate of one I already have, but is a little nicer).

The last one doesn't look correct:

Maybe it is just the image? The location looks correct, But I'm not seeing the RPM clearly. A closeup might help me more.

coop- I will try to get a better shot of the mm, it looks to match to me, the top of two additional S's show in hand. The markers on the LIBERTY match. The die chip on the wheat ear is not there as on the coppercoins example, nor does it show up on the CONECA RPM e-book Stage A example. I will try getting a better pic. Thanks!

OK the images show what I needed to see. It is the 001. Nice find. I bought mine years ago and it is worth probably at least 4 times what I paid for it.

If you don't mind me asking coop, approx. how much and about when did you pay for it?

I prefer to keep a note ref. the approx. rate of ap/depreciation of these little gems.

thx.

1954S-1MM-003 Plus Lamination. It sure looks like lamination to me, the next to last pic you can see what is actually partially separated from the coin, however, it looks heavier.thicker than other laminations that I have seen in hand. Any opinions/thoughts? Thanks!

OK, now you have me wondering how much of a start I have on this set. I need to look and see. Best early one I have found is an unc. 12-s rpm#1. That 09-s is a score !

Looks like it. At first I thought you were referring to the slab scratch on the obverse near IN?
