Hello Charles, I would like to put in my Two Cents on this subject. For years I was pretty much blindly collecting what I thought was odd and possibly valuable coins. It wasn't until a few years ago by luck I was given the opportunity to become the Fly-In club webmaster and one of the groups officers. This also afforded me the opportunity to learn how little I really knew about minting and error/varieties. I've since learned so much just associating with Rick and the other long time FE and IHC collectors, there is a wealth of knowledge out there, but sometimes it takes a while to learn, and accept that. I for one also appreciate your time and efforts on the minting and variety subjects. I have learned a lot about the Lincoln Cent series, a series that really had not interested me much in the past. I now direct my friends and local coin club members who may be interested in Lincoln cents and varieties to this forum specifically for your input and the input of the other knowledgeable people here at Coin Community. I guess what I am trying to say is, it may appear that some are not getting the message, but more than not, benefit from what you are posting. I for one sure consider you to be one of the experts in the hobby, it would be a shame for this forum to loose the benefit of your years of knowledge. Thanks for making yourself available to those who do appreciate your help, your efforts are not wasted. Later,

Anyone can post anything...but at least try to learn from the answers given. Keep every example with a note as to what it is, and refer to that group any time you find something else you think might have merit as an error. If you see something very similar in your group, you probably have the same thing again. If you don't see anything that compares to what you have in your group, then ask questions. If it looks damaged it probably is. If it looks like Machine Doubling it probably is. Get a simple feel for what this stuff is and isn't, and learn to move forward with the knowledge you've been given. There's no imperative for you to find an error coin in every roll, and there's no rule that says you have to post something here every day, week, or month to show you've been looking. Errors are difficult to find, take thousands upon thousands of coins to find, and even the ones you will find usually won't be all that dramatic. If you are after die varieties, they aren't quite the challenge to find, but they are a challenge to collect. You may or may not ever run across an example of a particular die. I've been looking since 1984 and have scoped half a million coins since then and still have NEVER found a doubled ear cent. That's the challenge - the fun. I don't stop at every 1984 staring at it trying to turn it into a doubled ear in my mind, I know what they look like and know they are easy to spot...I just move on, like I have been for 23 years. How many times has anyone here seen me post photos of a coin I found? I can answer that - never. I haven't found anything worth bothering to get the camera out in six months...and I'm still not discouraged. I have patience. I know the stuff of value is scarce and difficult to find in pocket change. So that's that.

Ok , my Two Cents worth. I agree with 99 percent of what coppercoins says. Post mint damaged coins selling on ebay as errors is fraud. Posting photos of such or minor errors is a GOOD thing if you are not sure of what you have and you WANT to learn something new which is always good. I have looked through thousands of bu rolls looking for errors. Yes there are many minor errors that are repeated over and over again so they are very common. But they are errors and one can learn from them and they do have value to some. As for Die Cracks, I do collect Major die cracks, Cuds, Die breaks, split dies, and even a die chip. The thing about die cracks is while they are a very common error, there are some that have Fantastic EYE Appeal and Add to the Design of the coin by their placement. Two that come to mind are the Wounded Bison (huge retained Die crack) and the Two-Horned Bison (die crack and die chip). The frequency in which the wounded shows up is much greater than the Two-Horned making it a rarer but less noticeable coin. Both of these coin do sell on ebay. Because I have gone through thousands of rolls . I can really appreciate what coppercoins does, extremely hard work, hard on the eyes, and I sure he does see the same minor errors over and over again all day and that is what burned me out on bu rolls. Having said that, I want to encourage people to look through a lot of bu rolls to see what we are talking about. You will find minor errors and I encourage this and go ahead and post your finds, it is neat to find something that is an ERROR even if it is only minor. Look at all the VAM Morgans, most are just minor errors. errrrrrrrrrrrror

amac, I certainly didn't mean to imply that you not post your pics, especially if you have questions about a coin. I too collect some of the more dramatic die cracks, I even have a few showing the progression of the die damage for a certain few IHC years. My post was mainly intended for Coppercoins, perhaps a pm would have been more in order. If I have offended you in any way you have my apology, I certainly didn't mean it that way. I appreciate, and even enjoy seeing some of the different deformities I see posted here, some times what we say, isn't really what we intended to say if that makes any sense. Collect what makes you happy, and post what you think is interesting, my only concern is that the Forum doesn't loose anyone due to some possible misunderstandings. Later,
