After a long journey of 6836 miles and what appears to have been a layover to party with the fine people at US Customs, my gift arrived today from Turkey and it is wonderful. A large assortment of Turkish Lira spanning the timeframe from the 1940's to present. Each coin came with a notation as to what it is (which saved me hours of hunting in the Krause guide). To top it all off, Santa included 2 beautiful pieces of raw amethyst from the local area, with the notation that they are carried as good luck pieces.
Thank you Secret Santa, I really appreciate the gift. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Paulsz....you don't know how good it made me feel to see your post. When did you receive this? I mailed this out over a month ago and I was getting worried you were never going to receive it.

Honestly, I think I might have gotten within the week you sent it. For some reason it never clicked to me that I should confirm it on the thread. Sorry about that! Thanks for the gift!

As one of members who never received anything from their Secret Santa. Is anything being done to contact these "valued members" that never sent a gift. Since they received coins and never sent anything in return I think there names should be posted for all to see.

Wireman09 don't forget the rules stated gifts should be received by Jan 11th so there still is one more day. Maybe your Santa is from overseas and is being delayed by customs or something.

Also, don't forget that Secret Santa is more about GIVING than receiving. I have yet to receive my gift, but I feel blessed that my recipient received theirs and that they enjoyed it!

Foreign post is notorious in the UK for being very fast or very slow.

A letter dated 8 Dec from Seattle arrived here 11 Dec.
A package from somewhere else in USA posted 10 Dec arrived 6 Jan.
A package from Toulouse, France postmarked 27 Oct arrived today.
A letter I sent to Brisbane, Australia on 15 Dec (airmail) arrived yesterday.

None of the items I received appeared to have been opened by the post or customs, so that doesn't explain the delay but that doesn't mean they weren't held up.

What about those of us who signed up for last years and are still waiting? Should those names be posted? I fully understand the frustration of those who did not receive their gift and yes their could be a lot of reasons why. But last year it just got left hanging. I fear the same will happen again this year. I didn't participate this year because of last year as I didn't want to sour my holidays this year.

I sincerely hope those who haven't received their gift receives them soon. But I wouldn't hold my breath. I did that last year and about suffocated.

That's how I'm trying to look at it, too.

Here is my take on Secret Santa:

the area of my collection I am actively working on is getting very difficult to obtain new additions, so I choose not to participate in Secret Santa. However, I did tell Santa I was willing to participate if there were any last minute issues or problems. Santa did have a last minute addition, he asked me to send a gift and that person has received the package. No one had my name, so I am not getting a Secret Santa gift.

removing the moderator hat: for me Secret Santa is about the giving and seeing your recipient appreciate the gift.

EDITED - Since my original post, I have found that Santa gave my name to that last minute addition, which is fine.
The phrase "it is better to give than receive" still applies.

Wow. Remind me not to be so critical of the U.S. Postal Service. I'll still be critical, just not so critical.

I am critical of the US Postal Service, too.
Of the 183 letters I sent in 2012 to the USA, only 107 arrived. 6 of those I was informed by the addressee were delivered to the wrong house, 5 down the street; the other one, several blocks away.

The US Postal Service don't respond to emails and the few times I rang (nid-morning their time), they didn't answer the phone.

So you can understand why I have almost no confidence in the US Postal Service.
