Oh I like the 69! too bad for the gunk though, thanks for sharing.!

Hi, VancouverIslandCoinKid:
I was thinking that 100% acetone would clean it up but haven't decided to try yet.

Hey when you use acetone is it soaked in a container of it? tell me more about how that works. I have heard of other people using acetone.

Acetone is completely safe. Pour some into a small glass dish or jar and soak them. Cover it if soaking for a while because it evaporates fast.

For the coin, yes. For you, not so much so - make sure you are using it with adequate ventilation.

I think I will clean up the '69 and post again sometime soon. If it's organic, the acetone should lift it right off after a short soak and a soft toothbrush, if needed. I don't like cleaning, but occasionally it helps. I started using it once to help clean some old crusty Romans. Anything I do clean, I list as being cleaned if being sold or auctioned.

I only use 100% pure acetone, not nail polish remover.

Many say "Never Clean Coins" but I think that in this case, it would be much more appealing and it is not a valuable error.

Here is the '69 all cleaned up. At least as far as I wanted to go with it. Little bit better of a looker now! Looks like a very small third clip by the left leaf.
