I got a 20 Euro cents today, the cashier was counting the change, he noticed the coin and wondered how it got in between ours, I said I could have it for the face value and I had it. It is a 1999 Spanish eurocent coin and has Cervantes (Miguel de Cervantes, writer of Don Quixote) on the reverse

1996 D JFK From Walmart, BU, hardly a mark on it. Have gotten several from Walmart and convenience stores lately. Wouldn't it be great if they were starting to circulate!

Nothing too interesting. Mainly I find older Jefferson nickels and S mint cents and nickels from the 60's & 70's.

This was not a rare find but it did kinda make the hair on my neck stand up. I went to purchase my sister a B-day present at the Local Wal-mart last year. Her birthyear is 1957. As I looked through the change I received that day. I found a 1957 wheatie. And to top it off, it was in AU condition! Needless to say, she got a little extra present that day when I delivered her present to her. MM

In my usual handful of wheaties I came across a few better dates. I think they were a 1929, 1937, and a 1939, but I don't have them in front of me so I'm not sure. I also found a silver dime in a roll. Rachel [:p]

My Son found a 1964 Silver Quarter just last week. A couple of days later, he called me out of breath, very excited (he's 9) asking me to check the RedBook for a 1957 Wheat cent in great condition. The only problem was, I was working at the office and couldn't exactly jump up, run home and check for him. I did get a laugh out of how excited he was and I think it's good that he enjoys finding intersting coins. Perhaps one day he'll find something really great and then I'LL get excited!

Grendelfreak,
I just noticed your avatar and I'm wondering what coin that is? My son and I went to our first coin show a few weeks ago and they had a "grab bag" for children under 12, where they reached into a bucket and pulled out as many coins as they could hold.
Well, one of the coins my son got looks exactly like your avatar, has an 1896 date on it, and says "One Penny". The other side has a bust of Victoria Dei Gra Britt Regina FED DEF IND.
I can upload it if you'd like, but any light you can shed on the coin would be greatly appreciated!

gshawn, Welcome. I am thrilled that your son is becoming a collector. He has a good eye and some good luck going. I don't blame him for being excited! This is a hobby I shared with my Daughter.(she's now 24 and still a collector) We would welcome your son on the forum with your permission of course. Tell him congratulations on his recent finds and keep us posted! Mike

What I have is a 1906 British penny, its probably worthless considering the condition its in, but it is a coin I've had for a long time (relatively speaking). IIRC the front has Brittania while the other side on mine is Edward VII, the successor to Victoria

The one my son has is not in the greatest shape either, but I thought it was an interesting coin. As far as the value, I saw one the other day on ebay that was in far, far worse shape than the one my son has, and the seller had it listed as a buy it now for $55 dollars. I don't know if he got it (doubt it), but he was trying.... My son also has a small coin with a crown on it and it says "NEW PENNY" at the top and 1/2 at the bottom. I think the date is either 1871 or 1971 (I've ordered a loupe, but it's not in yet), and it has a bust of Elizabeth II on it. My son loves foreign coins more than he does U.S. ones! He has about 100 of them, mostly pesos and canadian cents, but he has a few that are quite interesting and neat to look at. Thanks for the info!
