I have a tough time understanding why coin sellers need to have private listings. I think the practice should be stopped . Comments ?

Pacificoin: I sometimes see Private listings in ebay feedback and have wondered what they mean. I haven't really looked into it much. What are the implications of a private listing?

I believe it was originally put in place to 'protect' buyers of high value items and allow them to keep anonymity... However, since ebay has made bidding history ID's private, I agree with Pacificoin, I think there is no longer any point to it and would be more than fine with it going away...

The only purpose it serves now is to obfuscate shill bidding. Time for it to go away.

The implication is that no one can see what was the sale about.

I just purchased a $40 pair of headphones, I went to leave feedback I saw the seller had marked the deal 'private'. Odd.
Rest in Peace

This is why I do not participate in private listing auctions.

Agree, it only helps to hide shilling and it needs to go away.

I don't like private auctions, but not because of shill bidders. I'll only bid what I think a coin is worth to me, so shills don't bother me. The reason I don't like private listings is that it hides the bidders identities. Yes I know I can't really see their identities, but I can recognize the 4-character thingys sometimes especially if I bid on the same type of coins, and the same competition also bids. Bid patterns are also sometimes visible, and a high bid is even recognizable sometimes.
