Quote: I just received my Bison portrait coin from Silvertowne. It took about a week, and the shipping to Canada was free. Also, because the coin is silver I paid no duty and no taxes on the coin. I also did not have to pay any brokerage fees. I am now thinking about picking up a few more things from Slivertowne. Nice, great time to be a collector, lots of deals to be had.

So other than the USD$ exchange rate, did you pay any other fees/taxes/charges?

@Alex A No, I just paid the exchange rate. This means I got the coin for just over half of the RCM issue price.

i agree,,,, despite how just prices are dropping hard... I do believe again, these price drops, are for anyone new coming into the hobby,,,, getting even 50% off a coin is a GREAT way to start, basically now you can get 2 coins for the price of one.
There is always the caveat that prices go lower for these, but again, the positive is if you are starting out,,, this is a GREAT time to buy and start collecting.

Has anyone else seen this happening at Coin Shops or post offices?
I noticed the other day, while dropping off something at my local 7-eleven Post Office, that even they were cutting back both on what they stocked, and more certainly...what went on display. Our main post office would tell their customers, "if you want more selection in coins, the 7-eleven has the best selection in the city" So, if looking for that one that I missed, sold out at the mint - they more than likely had it in stock.
So, instead of a wall long display case, 2 shelves high - stacked with one of each of the more recent releases, and some older stock... they now only have a turnstile type display case with only about 10-12 individual or sets displayed.

@Dcadon I have seen the same thing at my local post offices. They used to have quite a few coins in several display cases. In all cases this has been reduced to one display case with only a few coins or sets. The ones I have seen include the 2015 proof dollar, the silver proof set, the specimen set and perhaps 1 or 2 others.

I understand that the PO is forced(forced orders from the Mint)into taking some coins .They also order other coins for their display cases. The PO is having a hard time selling the extra coins they ordered so now they are not ordering them .The PO I usually deal with now has a bare bones display case(just the coins that the Mint forces them to take for being a dealer).

I find it really disturbing that Silvertowne keeps dumping some good looking coins to such low prices, it really makes me rethink about the hobby. I'm surprised Lake Ontario coin is there - I really liked that set but thankfully I dropped my subscription after the 2nd coin after securing the box. At this rate, I'll just keep waiting to complete my collection while I see them go for 40-50% off =(

I really wonder if they really make a lot of money in the "buy a lot and grade everything, sell the bad ones for 50% off" business for them to keep doing it to so many coins...

Quote: I don't have one of these, I guess I will just wait till it drops to issue price. Ended CAD 404, close to other one with BIN C$405. So this is real market price. I think that it will drop more, but don't believe that under $300 ....

I really like this farewell to the penny silver set. I too will wait a bit to see if it drops a little in the next little while.
