I am not down or negative on coin collecting. I HATE to be negative! Where I am worried about are both new and old collectors, who are going to, in a sense, is collectors getting discouraged from seeing coins drop.. and not realizing they can get 2 coins now for the price of one.
I think thats where my worry is. I think in some ways, if you are just starting to collect or been holding out.. this is a good time period to start. I like the dropping prices, I have picked up a few coins I wanted. But I also have in the back of my mind to be more patient...to get the best price.
But I go back to my earlier thought, that collectors both new and old will get discouraged from picking up right out the gate new mint releases. It reminds me of another hobby I am in. A certain company releases the collectible item at their suggested retail price. Dealers offer their price. What has happened tho in about 4 years of this line being in existence is that in the secondary market, prices drop by 30-40% and even dealers slash prices by 40-50% after 2 years or so.
So what has happened? The line, sure it is has a collector base but there isn't a lot of enthusiasm and collectors simply sit back for prices to drop. Others have decided to throw in the towel and arent interested in the product line anymore. A fatigue has set in.
I think lower prices across the board by the RCM and other world mints would bring back collectors and get them to open up their wallets.
Finally, Silver Don, I do agree with you last comments. It does seem like when Silvertowne really started to slash their prices on these coins they really started to move.
A difference in opinion is considered whining? I thought this was a discussion forum where people can freely express their thoughts. You don't have to agree with everything said.
I know,,, man... just because I have an opinion doesn't mean I have to be told to stop. Its not like I am being mean about it either.
Again, I am ALL for coin collecting. I do NOT feel the hobby is dying but I do have concerns for hobbyists who are entering and are already collecting and are TIRED of seeing prices drop.
A hobby means you are using discretionary income, that in turns you have set aside X amount of dollars in some cases, tho coins are many times an impulse item. In any case, if you are finding you are over paying for items and not paying a fair amount price, thats going to get really old over time. There will be discouragement.
Hey, I hope I am WRONG in thinking that we have fatigue. I hope I am proven wrong and that folks dont get fatigued. I care about this hobby a lot. I would have a lot of regret if I didnt speak my mind on the negative things.

For those that took advantage of the 2013 Red Enameled 2013 $20 silver coin a few months back, I just noticed that silvertowne have the 2014 green enameled one on sale for $47.95 (wire/c-card) - with free shipping. Granted the exchange rate blows these days - but it beats the mint's price all to bits of $114.95

Ya I posted about this as well a bit ago. Sad thing is someone in another forum (P/M silver, gold, etc) posted that this was there recent silver add to their stash purchase lol. Sad how far some coins have fallen in price, oh well great for those who like super deals I guess.
I just received my Bison portrait coin from Silvertowne. It took about a week, and the shipping to Canada was free. Also, because the coin is silver I paid no duty and no taxes on the coin. I also did not have to pay any brokerage fees. I am now thinking about picking up a few more things from Slivertowne.
